In my childhood, I had a phase in which I called everything I liked purple.

“Dunja, how is your ice cream?” – “Purple.”.

“How do you feel today?” – “Purple.”.

A yellow ball that had to stay in my bed for one summer – Purple.

From a psychological point of view, a very minimalistic form of synesthesia.

Today the sky is blue, the grass is green, but the photos I saved on my Instagram account prove that my prefered eye shadow look is still or let’s say again – Purple. Maybe because I once learned that purple eyeshadows or colours with purple undertones give brown eyes some of that ‘Je ne sais quoi’. Purple actually goes with every eye colour – blue, green, yellow, gray and even purple eyes (see Elizabeth Taylor). It’s the crazy cousin of the classis brown shade.

Now, how can you make purple work for yourself, without reducing it to a line above the lashes or having to look as if you were about to hit the club? Let Instagram be your makeup artist for today. Do it in pastel! – the secret universal filter of all Instagram images that you’d prefer to crawl into, even if you can’t stare at them any longer (or is it just me?). If Instagram had to move into an apartment, it would paint its walls in pastel – oh what, ceiling, floor, toilet lid – everything would be a little more desaturated and flat(laid).

Pastel purple on the eyes has something out of this world. And a few coats of mascara will give the eyes more depth again, as pastel shades can cancel out contrasts and easily look flat. In combination with a summer tan and a warm nude tone like Kjaer Weis ‘Brilliant‘, the look gets modern and wants to whisper “summer is not over yet”.

The Look

Eyes: Apply HIRO Cosmetics White Knight with a Blending Brush on your lid and blend as if there’s no end. Then take a smaller brush, like a lip brush or an eyeliner brush and apply White Knight below the lower lash line. Now repeat both steps with RMS Swift Shadow in EM-68 and again blend, blend, bl-end until White Knight and EM-68 made an Insta worthy baby – pastel-lilac. Finish with two or three coats of Mascara. Here we uses RMS Beauty Volumizing Mascara.

Lips: Kjaer Weis Brilliant Lipstick

Cheeks: Use your fingers to pick up some colour from your lips and softly pat onto cheeks.
